Troye Sivan ha anunciado que el próximo 9 de octubre se lanzará oficialmente su cuarto álbum de estudio, titulado ‘She’s the Best‘. Será su primer lanzamiento desde ‘Something to Give Each Other‘ (2023) y el primero tras su fichaje por Interscope Records.
Como primer adelanto de ese nuevo disco, el cantante ya ha estrenado oficialmente la canción que le da título, una obra coescrita por Sivan junto a George Daniel —batería de The 1975 y marido de Charli XCX—, Jack Antonoff, Leland y Kaelyn Behr, con producción de Sivan, Daniel, Antonoff y Styalz Fuego.
Lejos del banger inmediato de ‘Rush‘, ‘She’s the Best‘ propone una experiencia más pausada: un trip-hop susurrado con ecos de britpop noventero, repleto de capas melódicas e instrumentales que desembocan en un final eufórico. La canción es una oda a sus amigas —y en particular a las mujeres trans y las drag queens— que han sido la constante que lo ha mantenido «algo cuerdo» durante los últimos años: «La única constante en mi vida no ha sido el trabajo, ni los hombres, sino lo femenino. Gracias a Dios por ellas».
El videoclip, dirigido por Gordon Von Steiner —responsable también de los clips de ‘Rush‘, ‘Got Me Started‘ y ‘One of Your Girls‘—, está ambientado en un club lleno de drag queens, con Sasha Colby entre ellas, y protagonizado por Nicole Kidman. La actriz australiana observa la escena copa en mano mientras Sivan actúa, para acabar uniéndose a él al final del vídeo. El clip incluye también un cameo sorpresa de Charli XCX. Sivan cuenta que estaba en mitad de una reunión de Zoom cuando recibió la llamada de Kidman: vio la transcripción del buzón de voz —«Hola cariño Troye, soy Nic»— y cerró el portátil al instante.
El álbum de 12 canciones, que Sivan describe como «caótico, complejo, orgánico, conflictivo y vivo», explorará el deseo, la identidad, la alegría, la soledad y el sentido de pertenencia queer.
